Mbambo, a veteran actor who also appears on Muvhango, said the vicious attack happened on December 19 while he was doing a cellphone sim card swap at an MTN store in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni.
“I walked into the cellphone shop to do a sim swap but they were out of stock,” he said.
“The consultant asked me to go and buy it elsewhere and come back so they can help me activate and Rica it.
“The consultant advised me not to start at the back of the queue when I got back as I had been there already.
“Upon my return, the queue was longer and I tried to make other people in the queue aware that I was not jumping the queue.” he said.
Mbambo, who plays the father of Thandaza (Sindi Dlathu) on the SABC2 soapie, said while he was still explaining, a white woman complained that he was cheating by not standing at the back of the queue.
“I ignored her. When I was done, I wished everyone a merry Christmas. As I was walking out, this woman kept on saying ‘k***, wie dink is jy (k***, who do you think you are?).
“I ignored her once again and continued walking towards the door. When I got out of the door, there was a young white man who was standing at the door and he threw a can of cooldrink in my face,” Mbambo said.
He said the “young man” followed that with a quick combination of punches and landed a few blows on his face.
“He also stuck one of his fingers in my eye.
“That was very sore. I could not defend myself as I had my tablet and papers in the other hand,” he said.
The seasoned actor said in order to defend himself, he bit his alleged attacker on the cheek.
“Police arrived at the scene and took both of us to the Brakpan police station,” he said.
Brakpan police spokeswoman Pearl van Staad confirmed a case of assault had been opened and was being investigated.
